Do You Know Jesus Christ?

Do You Know Him?

The most crucial question in life is where you’ll spend eternity. A century from now, wealth, enjoyment, friendships, or success will fade in significance. What will truly matter after death is whether you knew God during your time on earth.

Jesus prayed to His Father in John 17:3,

  • And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

Knowing God goes beyond intellectual agreement or following a self-created deity that aligns with personal desires. Jesus defined eternal life as knowing God—an intimate relationship with the one true Sovereign Lord and Creator, Jesus Christ.

So the eternally significant question for you is: Do you know Him?

The Problem of Sin

Knowing God is not something that comes natural to us. We cannot know God if we are separated from Him.

King David confessed in Psalm 51:5,

  • Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

David continued in Psalm 58:3,

  • The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies.

Romans 5:12 explains this is due to the sin of Adam in the Garden of Eden:

  • Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.

This means that all people inherit a sinful nature from birth, creating a separation from God.

Every sin—whether lying, stealing, immorality, or failing to love God fully—stems from this nature, making us prone to disobedience (Romans 6:17; Ephesians 2:3, 5:6). God, in His holiness, keeps account of every thought, word, and action that opposes His righteous character. Without knowing God, those who die in their sins face judgment and eternal separation in hell, a place of unending torment (Revelation 20:11-15).

If you remain in rebellion against God, you risk eternal separation from Him with no escape from His righteous judgment.

Psalm 7:11 says,

  • God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.

Hebrews 10:31 tells us,

  • It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Regardless of wealth, status, or deeds—whether a notorious criminal or a Nobel Peace Prize winner—everyone will stand before God to give an account. Does this concern you, dear friend?

Jesus Christ the Redeemer

God, as a righteous judge, must hold guilty sinners accountable, yet His grace and mercy offer a path to reconciliation without compromising His justice. The price of forgiveness was the life of the Innocent One, Jesus Christ. Over 2,000 years ago, God the Father sent His only Son “to save His people from their sins” (John 3:16; Matthew 1:21). Born of a virgin, Jesus took on human form, living a sinless life (John 1:14; Luke 1:26-38; 2 Corinthians 5:21). He set aside His divine glory to become the Suffering Servant, redeeming sinners through His sacrifice (Philippians 2:5-8; Isaiah 53; Titus 2:14). God did not spare His own Son, offering forgiveness and eternal life to all who believe (Romans 8:32). This was the cost of salvation—the precious life of Jesus Christ.

Jesus lived in perfect obedience to His Father, performing miracles, healing the brokenhearted, and embodying flawless love, kindness, humility, patience, and compassion. At the appointed time, He willingly gave His life on the cross to save sinners from eternal death (Romans 5:6-11). Jesus, innocent of any crime, bore the full weight of God’s wrath in place of those who would trust in Him. His shed blood cleansed the sins of His people, and His sacrifice satisfied God’s justice, allowing believers to be declared “not guilty” (Isaiah 53:10; Romans 3:21-26). This is the profound, sacrificial love God showed to sinners (Romans 5:8; 1 John 4:9-10). Having fulfilled His mission, Jesus surrendered His spirit and died on the cross, securing victory over sin and death (Matthew 27:45-54).

On the third day, the most triumphant event in history unfolded: Jesus Christ rose from the grave (John 20:1-18; 1 Corinthians 15). The Father, satisfied with His Son’s sacrifice, raised Him to life, exalting Him as King and Ruler over all (Philippians 2:5-11). Through His victory over death, those who trust in Jesus do not need to fear any longer (Hebrews 2:14-15). His resurrection secures forgiveness for sinners (Romans 4:25), and because He lives, those who place their hope in Him will live eternally (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

Repent and Believe

God calls you to repent—turn from your sins—and place your full trust in Jesus Christ, the living God, and His finished work on the cross. His blood is sufficient to cover all your sins—past, present, and future (Hebrews 10:12-14). Jesus invites you to abandon a life of sin and self-reliant good deeds, and instead follow Him (Mark 8:34-38). Salvation does not come from your works, which fall short of God’s standard (Isaiah 64:6; Romans 3:10-11), but through Christ’s perfect righteousness, the only way to meet God’s requirement for heaven (Matthew 5:20; Romans 5:15-21).

One day, Jesus, our glorious King, will return to judge the world in righteousness (Romans 2:5). He will not come as a gentle Lamb but as a mighty Lion, bringing justice to those who reject God and disobey the Gospel (2 Thessalonians 1:8-10). Do not turn away from God’s merciful offer of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.

The Great Exchange

When a person repents and trusts in Jesus, God performs a divine exchange: their sins are placed on Christ, who bore the punishment for them on the cross, and Christ’s perfect righteousness is credited to them (2 Corinthians 5:21). Though Jesus was sinless, He took on the sinner’s guilt, allowing God to view the believer as blameless, holy, and clothed in the righteousness of His perfect Son. This “Great Exchange” is the glorious truth that underpins justification by faith alone in Jesus Christ.

But be warned, because 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says,

  • Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

That is why you need the righteousness (or perfect obedience) of Christ to enter heaven. To those who possess Jesus’ righteousness by repentant faith, verse 11 promises,

  • And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Does Jesus Know You?

Even more important than the question of whether you know Jesus, is the question of whether Christ knows you. Does He know you?

Jesus says in John 10:27,

  • My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Do you hear His voice? Will you trust Him and become His disciple? If you know Jesus, you will recognize His voice and follow Him through the door to eternal life (John 5:25; John 10:1-10).

Come to Jesus Christ for forgiveness, and rest assured you will never be lost (John 10:27-30). God lavishes promises on those He forgives and adopts as His children (Ephesians 1:3-14). Nothing in creation can separate believers from God’s love in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:39). Jesus invites the weary and burdened to find rest for their souls in Him (Matthew 11:28-30).

In John 6:35, Jesus promises,

  • I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

Jesus also declares in John 11:25-26,

  • I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.

Do you believe this?

Come to Christ and live!

Proverbs 3:7-8 admonishes,

  • Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.

Dear friend, turn from your sins, lay your burdens at the cross, and find healing through Jesus, the living Son of God. Cry out for His Spirit to free you from the chains of sin (John 8:31-36; Romans 6:20-23). May God be glorified through your salvation, not your rejection of His grace. Don’t turn away from this free gift of salvation any longer—come to Christ and live. Trust in Him, and you will “rejoice with inexpressible joy, receiving the salvation of your soul” (1 Peter 1:3-9).

Biblical Assurance of Salvation

2 Corinthians 13:5 gives the following admonition to all professing Christians:

  • Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

This is a call for anyone who considers themselves to be a Christian to test your faith against the Bible’s definition of what it means to be Christian.

The apostle John wrote in 1 John 5:13:

  • I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.

Many people rely on feelings, good deeds, or unbiblical teachings for assurance of salvation. Instead, we encourage you to read the book of 1 John, which offers clear guidance to confirm your faith, so you can be certain of your eternal life and your relationship with Jesus.
